EXAMINATION ON REG YACHT CODE – PART A: VESSELS BELOW 500GT
The purpose of Part A of the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code, is to provide design criteria, construction standards and other safety measures for yachts carrying not more than 12 passengers so as to minimise the risk to such yachts, persons onboard and the environment.
The criteria are generally in line with the Conventions and Instruments mentioned in the preamble of the Code, but where it was thought necessary, an equivalent was created to ensure that they could be applied to yachts.
The content of this examination module is limited to vessels below 500GT and was designed to for marine surveyors wishing to operate in the inspection of the yachts within this scope. Upon successful exam completion, participants will be equipped with a certificate to demonstrate understanding on the requirements of REG Code - Part A for vessels below 500GT.
Aims & Objectives
The aim of this module is the assessment of surveyors and technical staff on the requirements of the Large Yacht Code (REG) - Part A for yachts below 500GT carrying no more than 12 passengers.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the participant will be able to demonstrate understanding on REG Code design guidelines, building standards, and other safety measures for yachts below 500 GT carrying no more than 12 passengers.

Marine technical staff wishing to work in the inspection of yachts, including:
- RO Surveyors
- Marine Auditors
- Maritime Administrations technical staff
- Vessel operators/Owners
Prerequisite skills & knowledge:
- qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science
- qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer
- proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services.
