ISPS Company & Ship Security Officer (Model Course 3.20 & 3.19)

This training course equips participants with an extensive understanding of the ISPS Code and its requirements based on model course 3.20 & 3.19. Upon successful completion, the trainees will be able to acquire qualification as Company Security Officer (CSO) and Ship Security Officer (SSO).

 

Built your knowledge, understanding and proficiency as required by STCW 2010 and the ISPS Code to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities as Company Security Officer (CSO) or Ship Security Officer (SSO).

 

The course also provides certified Security Knowledge for the crew responsible for the security and safety of your ships and is a helpful tool for shipping companies to ensure compliance with ISPS Code.

 

Company Security Officer (CSO) is in accordance with the standard of competence as outlined in the Guidelines on Training and Certification for Company Security Officers issued as Annex of MSC/Circ.1154 and the IMO Model Course 3.20.

 

Ship Security Officer (SSO) is in accordance with the Mandatory Minimum Requirements for the Issue of Certificates of Proficiency for Ship Security Officers, set out in section A-VI/5, paragraphs 1 to 4 of the STCW 78, as amended and the IMO Model Course 3.19.

 

Aims & Objectives
  • Assist current and future CSOs/SSOs, to develop effective and practical skills in order to carry out their tasks effectively
  • Help companies apply the ISPS Code and achieve compliance

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Achieve ISPS understanding according to IMO model courses 3.19-3.20
  • Develop, implement, maintain and supervise Ship Security Plans
  • Identify of threats and vulnerabilities and assessment of security risks
  • Be aware of methods for inspection and monitoring of security measures on board ships
  • Carry out the operation, testing and calibration of security equipment and systems
  • Enhance security awareness and vigilance of company staff (ship and shore)
  • Grasp through analysis other International conventions like SUA etc.
  • Learn the main requirements of US (i.e. 33CFR as amended)
  • Know all the Basics from the Guide to Maritime Security & the ISPS Code 2012 edition
  • Use practical case studies and exercises to learn possible measures for compliance with the maritime security requirements as laid down in the ISPS Code.

Prerequisite skills & knowledge:
  • Basic understanding of Solas Ch XI – 2, ISM, MLC and STCW is needed.
  • Participants aiming for a certificate of proficiency as ship security officer shall have approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or appropriate seagoing service and knowledge of ship operations (STCW 78, as amended, Reg. VI/5).
