The use of anti-fouling systems to prevent the build-up and spread of harmful organisms on the surface of ships is of critical importance to a vessel’s performance, marine environmental protection, and commerce efficiency.

  • Provide basic understanding of anti-fouling systems in shipping and to stress the need to continue to use anti-fouling systems which are effective and environmentally safe
  • Promote the substitution of harmful AFS systems by less harmful systems or preferably harmless systems
  • Deliver practical instructions for AFS sampling that have an impact on the marine environment and human health
