• Help participants become qualified ship security personnel with Designated Security Duties

Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this course you will have knowledge of:

• recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices
• recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
• techniques used to circumvent security measures
• crowd management and control techniques

Participants will be able to take on the duties and responsibilities as defined in the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and STCW for seafarers with designated security duties such as:

• maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan
• knowledge of current security threats and patters
• undertake regular security inspections of the ship
• proper usage of security equipment and systems

• Officers and crew involved and having duties on board according to ship security plan.

Prerequisite skills & knowledge:

• Basic understanding of SOLAS Ch XI – 2, ISM, and STCW is recommended.
• Participants aiming for a certificate of proficiency as Seafarers with Designated Security Duties shall have approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or appropriate seagoing service and knowledge of ship operations (STCW 78, as amended, Reg. VI/6-2).
