Human Element - Performance

This course describes the main Human Element Performance for the persons onboard and ashore that must be considered in order the trainees to be able, using the gained input, to:

·         Define performance management and describe the importance of performance management.

·         Define performance appraisal and identify the uses of performance appraisal.

·         Describe the performance appraisal process.

·         Identify the various performance criteria (standards) that can be established.

·         Identify who may be responsible for performance appraisal and the performance period.

·         Identify the various performance appraisal methods.

·         List the problems that have been associated with performance appraisal.

 

CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

Implement the last part of the course which is the “Competencies Matrix”.

 

Expand your knowledge on the Human Element in Shipping and

Implement the proposed “Competencies Matrix” on board and ashore.

 

The course is divided into the following parts:

Aims & Objectives

 

  • To significantly enhance maritime safety and the quality of the marine environment by addressing human element issues to improve performance
  • To be able to decide the methods used and requirements for the selection of the personnel on board and ashore
  • To have in place a structured approach for the proper consideration of human element performance and
  • To provide material to educate seafarers so as to increase their knowledge and awareness of the impact of human element issues on safe ship operations, to help them do the right thing.
