Learning Outcomes
Having successfully completed this course you will have knowledge of:
- recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices
- recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
- techniques used to circumvent security measures
- crowd management and control techniques
- security related communications
- knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans
- operation of security equipment and systems
- testing, calibration and at-sea maintenance of security equipment and systems
- inspection, control and monitoring techniques
- methods of physical searches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo and ship stores
Participants will be able to take on the duties and responsibilities as defined in the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and STCW for seafarers with designated security duties such as:
- maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan
- knowledge of current security threats and patters
- undertake regular security inspections of the ship
- proper usage of security equipment and systems

Prerequisite skills & knowledge:
- Basic understanding of SOLAS Ch XI – 2, ISM, and STCW is recommended.
- Participants aiming for a certificate of proficiency as Seafarers with Designated Security Duties shall have approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or appropriate seagoing service and knowledge of ship operations (STCW 78, as amended, Reg. VI/6-2).

Cyprus Maritime Administration – Certification requirements
General guidance
After finishing the online course, you can submit your certificate and apply for the Cyprus Flag Administration certification, which is valid for sea service. You may contact the Cyprus Flag Administration at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or your country's Cyprus Embassy for further information about the particular process.
The Cyprus Flag Administration charges an additional cost of 50€ per certification, and the process is conducted electronically.
Each participant receives a training certificate at the end of the course, attesting to their completion of the training course. For the Certificates’ of Proficiency issuance (COP) by the Cyprus Flag Administration, the participant needs to submit the below:
- A copy of the seaman's book or passport
- Where appropriate, a copy of the certificate to be renewed
- A duplicate of the attendance certificate (issued by LiberoAssurance)
- A duplicate of the medical certificate
- One single jpeg picture
- The applicant has to fill and sign application form EN05F10-V10
- A copy of the payment receipt from the Cyprus Flag Administration's Office is required (an electronic payment receipt copy is insufficient).
- Proof of payment of the applicable charge in accordance with Cyprus Flag Administration guidelines.
